Any dog lovers in the GlutenFreeNetwork?  We are thinking of getting a new addition to our family and would love advice on breeds, training, ect.   I'm into smaller dogs.  Not the "purse" type but you know small enough to pick up and cuddle.  Smiley   Richard likes big dogs like Huskys and Chocolate Labs so we will see who wins!!  ;)  I'll keep you posted!!

I suggest a beagle!  I grew up with a beagle and he is a great pet.  They are super smart and loving.  Great with all ages.  They are happy and friendly.  We broke ours of howling when he was a pup so we never had a problem with that...he was also really easy to train.  The only issue we had was we had to make sure he was never outside unaccompanied or without a fence.  They will follow their nose anywhere :-)

We have actually been looking at a few beagle crosses. Bugs, Puggles, and I can't even remember the other ones. They were all cute though:)

Haven't seen many pure Beagles as we are trying to adopt to give a home to a homeless puppy:sad:

We have a border collie mix. He is really smart. But he needs a "job" or constant interaction so he doesn't go nuts.

Please please please adopt, and don't pay big $ for a breeder. There are so many great dogs that needs homes......

Don't worry, we would never "purchase" a puppy. Adoption is the only way we are going to find a new family member here;)
Too many of them get put down because they are not new born puppies anymore, in some cruel peoples eyes "no good anymore" :(

Before anyone gets offended, I am not talking about everyone that has purchased a puppy. Sometimes you just cannot find the right puppy to adopt and 98% of the time you cannot find a smaller breed to adopt as they are usually larger breeds. All I ask is that you do your best to look around to see if there is a little guy/girl out there that you could save from being put down as all they need is a new home before the rescue agency runs out of space. Most of the time these dogs have had a terrible life, even fostering one until it can be adopted is a GREAT thing to do for that little puppy to show him/her some love for a change:love:

I agree %100 Richard.  So many abandoned animals need homes.  And I totally disagree with selling pets.  Especially pet stores with their little cages and high prices.  i feel bad for the little guys but would never support a pet store!! angry

I will be the first to admit, I visit pet stores often to look at the new puppies:o. BUT, that doesn't mean I would buy one I just can't help stopping there to see all the little cuties!

We got a dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His name is Domo and he is a one year old jack russell terrier.  He was rescued from the pound by my Aunt and Uncle because his owners abandoned him and he was to be put down. :(  He is just such a sweet and cuddly dog! Smiley  And he is house trained too so that's a bonus!!  ;)  It has been really cold and snowy here(-21C) and poor Domo has no fat or fur and freezes his butt off so I hope it warms up soon so we can have some fun outside with him!  I'll get Richard to post a picture of him soon.  We are just both so happy to have him!!    :happydance:
